ZFS (outdated: Zettabyte File System) was designed for data center and server use and relied on a fast read cache to provide the client with the requested file from a comprehensive database as quickly as possible. The priority is to have plenty of memory, supported by the use of high-performance NVMe SSDs. Together they provide the read cache for the ZFS.

- How virtualization servers work
A special software inserts an additional layer between hardware and software in which hardware functions are simulated. This allows multiple systems (operating systems, applications) to run in virtual machines (VMs) on a single server.
Thin provisioning does not allocate the data storage permanently: all virtual machines can access the storage pool. The computing power demand is determined by the amount and task of each VM.
